Choosing skin care during pregnancy can be confusing. A product advertised for stretch marks is not automatically suitable for pregnancy, and no oil can be promised to prevent them.
Ask your obstetric clinician or dermatologist before starting a stretch-mark treatment, including essential oils. The American Academy of Dermatology notes that evidence for many creams and oils is limited and that some ingredients should not be used during pregnancy.
The product photographs below illustrate products discussed in this article, not a pregnancy-safety recommendation, endorsement or an item sold by our studios. Formulas can change; review the exact ingredients with your clinician.
Stretch marks are common during pregnancy. You do not need to treat them. If a change in your skin is painful, itchy or worrying, seek individualized medical guidance.
